Hospice Primary health care has an enormous task ahead. A modification that we are contemplating is to link up with established community based health programs which has the skills and machinery of community building and organizations encouraging community participation and social mobilization. Initial meetings along this thinking of establishing and implementing hospice care have been done by the Philippine Cancer Society. the Department of health, religious groups and non-government community organizations doing primary health care and we need a lot of assistance in funding, developing a community based hospice training program, training and in pilot testing the concept..
In conclusion, let me share with you the suggestions of James C. Yen (1920) which became the inspiration of Primary health Care:
Go to the people
Live among the people
Learn from the people
Plan with the people
Work with the people
Start with what the people know
Build on what they have
Teach by showing
Learn by doing
Not a showcase but a pattern
Not odds and ends but a system
Not to conform but to transform
Not relief but release.
